The Risks of Energy Conservation and
Home Weatherization
Joseph Lstiburek
Ph.D., P. Eng., ASHRAE Fellow
Principal, Building Science Corporation
Author, U.S. DOE Handbook on Moisture Control

Energy conservation in today’s most efficient buildings involves reducing air change and increasing the thermal resistance of building assemblies. These changes alter the durability of the building enclosure and affect the safety and health of occupants. Joseph Lstiburek will discuss the measures needed to ensure air quality and environmental safety for those who live and work in these structures. Lstiburek has appeared on PBS NOVA (Can Buildings Make You Sick?) and is the author of numerous books and technical papers on building science as well as indoor air quality and durability, including the U.S. DOE Handbook on Moisture Control. He was a special contributor to the EPA guidance document, Building Air Quality: A Guide for Building Owners and Facility Managers.

David Lee, U.S. Department of Energy, will introduce the speaker.
