Exit Lake Shore

Chicago from aboveThe Developer of Central Station in the South Loop neighborhood, Crescent Heights Inc, who purchased a few acres in the near South Loop neighborhood south of Roosevelt, is proposing a new exit from Lake Shore Drive at 16th Street.

Currently there is no exit between Roosevelt and 31st St. This has led to congestion along Roosevelt, especially in the last few years as new developments south of Roosevelt have added to population density. This could provide an alternate for residents in the Near South Loop, Motor Row, Prairie District, or even Bronzeville, or those traveling to points of interests such as Soldier Field or Museum Campus.

This could likely add to development efforts in the immediate area. DePaul University has also been considering plans to build a stadium across from the convention which would further development and need for the newly built Lake Shore Drive exit.

However, there has been neighborhood opposition and no immediate plans to start construction. The project will depend on progress of 30 acre mixed-use development that is to be built over the Metra Tracks.

What do you think of a new exit on Lake Shore Drive? Take the poll, results will be published in the coming weeks.
