Grant Park Area Street Closures In Effect For Lollapalooza Music Festival

Lollapalooza begins Thursday, July 28 and continues through Sunday, July 31, but preparation for the event will result in road closures leading up to the four day festival.

Lollapalooza brings large crowds daily to Grant Park in Chicago. Festival hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day.

Balbo, Jackson currently closed; Additional closures begin next week for the July 28 – 31 event

In anticipation of Lollapalooza four-day music fest in Chicago, the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) is reminding the public of the street closures and traffic impacts in the Grant Park area, some of which have already been implemented. Several streets are closed currently in Grant Park for set-up, with additional closures in effect next week.

Lollapalooza begins Thursday, July 28 and continues through Sunday, July 31 – with one additional day added this year (Thursday). Lollapalooza brings large crowds daily to Grant Park in Chicago. Festival hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day.

In preparation, Balbo is closed from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive and will reopen on Thursday, August 4. Jackson is also closed from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive and will reopen on Wednesday, August 3. Residents, pedestrians, and motorists can expect additional closures next week, including extension of the Balbo closure to Michigan – leaving Balbo closed from Lake Shore Drive to Michigan Avenue. Balbo, from Michigan to Columbus, will reopen Monday, August 1. Jackson from Michigan to Columbus will close Tuesday, July 26 and will remain closed until Monday, August 1.

On Tuesday, July 26th morning, Columbus is closed to traffic from Monroe to Roosevelt and will remain closed until Monday, August 1. In addition on Tuesday, Congress Parkway (including the Congress Circle) is closed from Michigan to Columbus and reopens Monday, August 1.

Motorists are urged to be aware of the closures and allow extra travel time or seek alternate routes around the area, as well as expect increased pedestrian activity during Lollapalooza.
