Changes to Chicago Parking

Chicago parking meter smallThere are changes coming to the parking meters in Chicago. Mayor Emanuel announced several modifications which include free parking on Sundays.

For having free parking on Sundays, neighborhoods outside the downtown area which have meters that currently expire at 9 pm will now be extended an hour until 10 pm. Current meters that expire at 6 pm will not be affected.

The most talked about change is the ability to pay by phone. For a $0.35 charge, individuals will be able to pay for or renew parking through their phone. The agreement must be approved by the city council, which will have 30 days to review the particulars.
