Steve Fifield wants to cap the Kennedy

Cap the Kennedy(Crain’s) Steve Fifield is pushing a big idea for the West Loop: Millennium Park West.

The Chicago developer has been pitching anyone who will listen about his $300 million proposal to build a 15-acre park over a stretch of the Kennedy Expressway running from Lake to Adams streets. He’s convinced a park would boost development in the West Loop and bridge the gap between the office towers on the expressway’s east side and the residential neighborhood to the west.

“It would be a game-changer for the city,” he said. “This would transform the West Loop from a sea of parking lots and high-rise buildings to an area that has some real amenities. It would be sort of our Millennium Park West.”
